I made my first neck tie onesie today:)  I think it is so cute, but there are a lot of puckers.  I obviously need to work on sewing with knits/stretchy fabric.

I a fusible webbing on the back of the tie, but I think if I make another one I need to use a double back fusible webbing so that I can iron it onto the shirts before I sew it into place and that might solve my problem.  If not, I might just sew it by hand instead of on the machine.

I used this tutorial and pattern found here, but I had to reduce the pattern to 70% it's original size to make it fit on to my tiny onesie.

I can't wait for this little guy to come, but something I've noticed it that there are not a lot of projects for boys.  Does anyone have any favorite baby boy projects?

  1. Have you tried Heat-n-bond? I've liked working with it...I think it looks cute though! And no, sorry. You're just not going to find much for boys. :(

  2. What about some little fabric shoes?! I think I linked to the pattern that I used for G on my blog...I check and see if I've got any other ideas.

  4. Thanks Aimee, I will add those ideas to my list. I've already done some receiving blankets out of a sheet that I found at the thrift store. I do have some double backed fusing. I don't know if it is called heat and bond or not. I just know it is more expensive than the one sided stuff so I thought I'd save a buck by cutting the corner. Obviously I needed to realize that I was using a such a small piece that it didn't matter and just use the good stuff. If the stuff that I have doesn't work out for my next one, I will make sure to buy the Heat-n-Bond kind.

  5. You're welcome! Is the double backed fusing the tape stuff? Because the Heat n Bond is more like fabric, in that you cut out the size piece you need from a sheet. I used it on the Birthday Banner I made for G (on the letters) and I didn't seem to need a huge section of it...Anyway. That's all I've done with it, but it didn't seem to be that expensive nor difficult to work with- from what I remember. You do have to get it from Joannes or Hancocks though. Miss you too!!!
